There was a decision from the Federal Court of Appeal (2012 FCA 161) for departments and agencies of the Government of Canada to make their websites accessible to the visually impaired. Since the classification standards were posted only in pdf and rtf formats, they were not accessible to members of the public with a visual impairment. Therefore, the standards had to be removed from the Treasury Board Secretariat’s external website.

Treasury Board Secretariat was given very little notice of the removal of standards from the website and is now working to correct the situation by coding all of the standards in html to ensure that the information on the Treasury Board Secretariat’s website is accessible to all. For those unable to access the standards via publiservice, such as the ACOC-ACCO and its members, Treasury Board has provided a pdf version of all standards in both official languages.

Pending the republishing of the classification standards in a fully accessible format, the ACOC-ACCO has posted 77 standards on its website to permit all of our members to access them for work.
